Method 1: TouchCopy

Our easiest and most robust method comes first in the shape of the TouchCopy software.

TouchCopy is the only tool you need for managing your iPhone with your computer. With it, you can copy all kinds of data like Contacts, Music, Messages, Photos and more.

TouchCopy is great and you can use to copy contacts and other files locally from your iPhone to your computer, so you don't need to worry about syncing with iTunes, or storing your personal data on a cloud service (as seen in our other methods).

Let's see how to export contacts to computer...

  1. Open TouchCopy
  2. Connect your iPhone with USB or Wi-Fi.
  3. Click 'Contacts' to view your iPhone Contacts.
  4. Hit 'Copy as vCard' (PC) or 'Copy to Mac' (Mac).

Using this function will save standard vCard (.vcf) contact files to the location that you choose on your PC or Mac. You can also save the contacts directly into the Contacts app on your computer by using the relevant buttons in the TouchCopy toolbar!

Alternatively, save all your contacts to a CSV file, which makes it easy to import to a web-based contact manager such as Google Contacts and Outlook 365. Simply, select all your contacts in TouchCopy ('ctrl+A' or 'cmd+A') and click 'Save CSV'(PC) or 'Copy to CSV'(Mac). You can then easily import the created CSV file containing your contacts to Google Contacts or Outlook 365. Please see our user guide for more information on how to export iPhone Contacts as CSV.

In order for Contact Transfer to access your contacts, they must be stored in your iPhone's local storage. If your contacts are instead stored in iCloud or another cloud platform, you'll need to download them to your iPhone.

Method 3: iCloud

iCloud is a great way to sync data like Contacts and Calendars between all of your devices. This method is great for people who like to access the same data across all iMacs, MacBooks, iPhones, iPads and iPods they own, but for others who like more control over their data, Method 1 may be more suitable.

To use this method to sync contacts from iPhone, you'll need to be connected to Wi-Fi.

Let's see how to sync contacts from iPhone to computer...

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud.
  2. Ensure that the 'Contacts' entry is toggled on (you may need to merge your iPhone contacts with any existing iCloud contacts).
  3. Next, log in to iCloud with your Apple ID from a browser.
  4. Click the 'Contacts' app icon.
(If you don't need to save the contacts to your computer, you can skip the next steps).
  5. Click a contact, then do 'Ctrl+A' on your keyboard to select all.
  6. With all Contacts selected, click the cog icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  7. Hit 'Export vCard...' to save contacts directly to your computer

If you need to export a long list of contacts, consider a different method, as you can only Airdrop 1 file at a time. As such, it can be a very long and tedious job to transfer your entire contact book 1-by-1.

Here's how to export a contact from iPhone to Mac using Airdrop...

  1. Turn on Airdrop on your iPhone:
    • Open Control Center by swiping from the bottom of your screen, or from the top if your iPhone has Face ID.

  2. Turn on Airdrop on your Mac:
    • Launch Finder on your Mac.
    • Click 'Go', then select Airdrop.

  4. Select a contact you want to transfer, then tap 'Share Contact'.
  5. Tap Airdrop, then tap your Mac when it's detected.
  6. Your Mac will receive a notification. Click to accept the contact file on your Mac!

With the first method, you can directly export Apple contacts to CSV from Mac (and iCloud and iPhone). This one is different. It involves conversion.

As mentioned above, Mac's Contacts app can export contacts to vCard. Also known as VCF, it's the primary export format of Apple contacts. You can export contacts to a vCard file first and then convert it to a comma-separated values file.

  1. The online converter is easy to access and use.
  2. No need to install a software.
  3. Export complete information of Mac contacts.

  1. The conversion may take quite a while if the vCard file is relatively large.

Steps to export Mac contacts to CSV through conversion

  1. Open the Contacts app on Mac.
  2. In the left sidebar, select All on My Mac (or a sub-group under it).
  3. From the top menu bar, choose File > Export > Export vCard.
  4. Choose a location to keep the file you are going to export. Click Save.
  5. Open your web browser and visit vCard to LDIF/CSV Converter, an online tool.
  6. Click Choose File. Select the exported vCard file. Click Open.
  7. Click the Format dropdown list and choose CSV.
  8. Select the option Comma as CSV (comma-separated values) files are generally separated by commas.
  9. Make sure you select the box before Add header line.
  10. Click Convert. Once the process is done, the CSV file will be automatically saved to your computer.

Compared to the first method, this one is a little bit complex. The online tool used here is easy to access and use. But there are a few limits. You need to upload your Mac contacts to the tool’s server. Also, there is a file size limit. In addition, the conversion may take quite a while if the vCard file is relatively large.

Before you can properly import your Mac contacts (now in a CSV) into Shutterfly address book, you need to get the CSV file ready for import. To help you out, Shutterfly provides a CSV template. There are two options. You can make sure that the column headers in your CSV match those in the template. Or, you can copy contact information from your CSV into the columns in the template. Below are the column headers in the template.

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Display/Household Name
  • Address Line 1
  • Address Line 2
  • City
  • State
  • Postal Code
  • Country
  • Email

With other services, if such a template is not available, you can manually create one.
